PCR or Covid tests have been conducted on 450 persons at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre -East Kandakadu who are assumed to have come in direct contact with the inmate at Welikada prison infected with COVID-19.
Director of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the test results have revealed that 56 persons from among the group had tested positive for COVID-19.
Dr. Jasinghe said the inmate from Welikada prison had undergone rehabilitation at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre -East Kandakadu over the last 3 months.
A woman from Marawila who had served as a counsellor at the rehabilitation centre had also tested positive for COVID-19 this morning.
Dr. Jasinghe said that Health and Security officials will take necessary measures to conduct further PCR tests and implement quarantine in this regard.
